IT ALL COMES TOGETHER WITH A CASTLE
From its humble beginnings in 1895 when Charles Glass first started brewing it at the Castle Brewery in Johannesburg, Castle Lager has brought people together.
The new beer soon became popular among the hard-working, prospectors of the gold rush, and in 1889 one of Johannesburg's early newspapers, the Digger's News, declared it "a phenomenal success." Today, Castle Lager is brewed in nine countries and regularly enjoyed in over 40 countries worldwide.
Even in the brewing process, it all comes together naturally. No artificial flavouring, additives or preservatives but only natural ingredients are used: the finest quality malted barley, maize, hops and water.
The taste has not changed in over 100 years, and after 12 days of brewing and fermenting and six days of maturation, the brew undergoes a series of rigorous quality approvals. It is only when we are absolutely sure that every ingredient has come together perfectly, that each bottle is allowed to leave the brewery as a Castle Lager.
It is difficult to master the art of brewing a beer with such distinctive taste - a taste that brings together the best of dry and the best of bitter. That is why Castle Lager Brewmasters have more experience than Brewmasters of other beers.
Here's to Castle... the beer that brings friends together. Inqaba!

Castle Lite was born as an innovator with an passionate purpose to unlock enjoyment.
In 1994 at the dawn for democracy in SA, in a time of opportunity and possibility, Castle Lite arrived to shake up the beer market.
In a time when beer was very conventional, the arrival of Castle Lite (lower in total energy), a 4% ABV premium beer challenged the beer status quo in an exciting and vibrant way.
Right from the outset, it was an innovation that solved a problem.
In South Africa, progressive and forward looking beer drinkers had a dilemma.
On the one hand, they wanted to enjoy themselves, but they also wanted to do this in a way that was a little more responsible and allowed them to stay in control.
Castle Lite innovated to solve this dilemma and this spirit of innovation and this mission to unlock enjoyment has been a core part of Castle Lite’s DNA ever since.
As South Africa catapulted forward and progress was taking place at a lightening pace, the brand needed to do the same to remain relevant.
Castle Lite illustrated its ability to innovate in the brand’s decision to move from brown glass to green.
In 2009, Castle Lite once again innovated dramatically with the launch of the exciting innovative world of Extra Cold Refreshment.
Lagered at -2.5C° and served at -4C° and packaged with SA’s first thermocromatic temperature indicator, Castle Lite took beer drinking to a whole new level of enjoyment.
Innovation upon innovation followed as Castle Lite continued to pioneer new ways to unlocked enjoyment.
We're at the forefront of what we do and in 2014 we launched the next generation of Extra Cold refreshment – Castle Lite Lime. It’s the original Castle Lite you know and love, with a revitalising dash of lime.

While most of the brewing world consists of ordinary lager brews, Hansa Pilsener offers styles of beer beyond the obvious. In keeping with the Hansa promise to brew beer styles beyond regular lager, Hansa Pilsener first challenged regular lager rules with the launch of South Africa's first Pilsener style beer, Hansa Pilsener, in 1975. Unlike other beers, Hansa is brewed with a key differentiator, the kiss of the Saaz hop, which serves to make the beer bracingly crisp and refreshing.
In the Hansa tradition to venture beyond the ordinary, May 2007 saw the launch of a new variant, Hansa Marzen Gold. Hansa Marzen Gold is brewed with the glow of slow-roasted amber malt to impart a rich brewhouse flavour that's exceptionally drinkable.
In the past year the brand has established itself as the brand for dreamers. For the everyday man who believes they can achieve their dreams and takes action to do so.
The new look Hansa has seen the brand modernise its packaging adding foil to the neck label and differentiating itself from other mainstream brands in the market.

Champion Men Deserve Champion Beer
Carling Black Label is one of South Africa's most well-known and well-loved beers.
With 25 International Awards for taste and quality under its belt, Carling Black Label is truly a Champion Beer. As the beer that is unmatched in gold, flavor and uncompromising in refreshment, men across South Africa and international taste experts continuously choose Carling Black Label as their beer of choice.
Carling Black Label first hit South African shores in 1966. The first advertising campaign kicked off with a "cowboy" theme, where the cowboy represented a hero who deserved a cold Carling Black Label as a reward for a long day's work.
In the early nineties Carling Black Label continued to reflect the spirit of the times. It was an era when South Africa's workers felt proud of their role in society as nation builders. Carling Black Label recognised these workers as ‘heroes' who were strong, honest and hardworking and therefore deserved the rewarding taste of a Carling Black Label at the end of the day.
At this time, Carling Black Label also began to win major awards in brewing competitions around the world. By 1996, Carling Black Label had been honoured twice at the World's Best Bottled Lager competition.
Since then Carling Black Label has won a total of 25 awards, the latest being a 3 Star Gold Superior Taste Award at the 2012 International Taste and Quality Institute in Belgium.
Carling Black Label has evolved over time to become the beer brand that represents the values of South African men from all walks of life and recognises them as champions for their drive and commitment to achieve great things. These are the everyday champions who take on life and win. These are the champion men who deserve the reward of a beer that's full-bodied, well-rounded and satisfying, A Champion Beer.
